Introducing Black & Gold - GLOBE-TROTTER

The new Centenary Black & Gold collection introduces a stylish twist on a classic colourway.

When it comes to the notion of luxury, we may think that it is epitomised by excess and extravagance. But just ask any fashionista what luxury means to them and it is usually far more refined and simple – and it tends to come in black.

The colour black exudes fine taste and style. On the one hand it is the original anti-colour – both literally as the absence of light and in its subversive nature – but on the other it is the epitome of high taste and fashion. It is Coco Chanel’s little black dress, Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic Le Smoking tuxedo, and the tinted windows of a Black Badge Rolls-Royce. Inherently stylish and timeless, black is effortlessly chic and attitude over spectacle.

For Globe-Trotter, black has proved a bestseller time and time again. Launched in 1997, the black-on-black Centenary case is one of our bestsellers, with its elegant jet black Vulcanised Fibreboard body and matching black leather handles and corners.

In 2010, Globe-Trotter launched a limited-edition Centenary-style collection in collaboration with lingerie brand Agent Provocateur, which featured a classic black Globe Trotter suitcase with gold hardware detailing instead of the usual nickel. The end result was a subtle change but it sparked immediate interest.

‘Since then, the request and interest in this colour combination from customers has grown,’ says Globe-Trotter business development manager Lilly Burtner.

This spring sees the launch of the Globe-Trotter Centenary Black & Gold collection. This comprehensive edit features classic Globe-Trotter silhouettes – from the signature London Square handbag to watch and jewellery cases and the dynamic new 4-wheel Carry-On Suitcases and Check-In suitcases – in a sophisticated pure black colourway with luxe gold rivets, buckles and studs.

‘The Centenary Black colourway has always been popular, even with some of our celebrity clients such as David Beckham, Thandie Newton and Daniel Craig,’ explains Burtner. ‘Darker colours wear well as scratches and scuff marks are less noticeable. We are pleased to now offer a Black/Gold Collection in both our classic two wheel and new 4-wheel styles. The London Square Bag is definitely my personal favourite piece. The classic black colourway will match with just about any outfit and the complementary brass hardware gives a bit of flare and added personality.’

Timeless yet contemporary, bold yet subtle, this unisex new collection is set to become a Globe-Trotter classic for years to come.
