Paul Smith X Globe-Trotter Returns For Summer 2019

Introducing a new collaboration with the British fashion icon inspired by a shared passion for travel

Last year, Globe-Trotter teamed up with British designer Paul Smith on a one-off collaboration, creating 120 special-edition suitcases. After selling out within weeks and due to popular demand, Paul Smith x Globe-Trotter returns for summer 2019. This time you can choose from a classic 20inch Trolley Case or the more spacious 30inch. Both cases are made from black vulcanised fibreboard and finished with trademark Globe-Trotter leather corners in multiple colours inspired by Paul Smith’s classic Signature Stripe.

The second edition Paul Smith x Globe-Trotter collection will be available from 3 July – just in time for the summer holidays. Travel is at the very heart of Globe-Trotter and Sir Paul Smith is an equally seasoned traveller. In fact, it was the challenges of balancing his hectic schedule that inspired him to create the first ‘Suit to Travel In’ at the end of 2015.

A Suit to Travel In is a lightweight tailored suit made from high-twist 100% wool yarn, meaning it has ‘quick recovery crease-resistant cloth’ which, as an added bonus, also possesses water-repellent qualities. Ultimately, the suit looks crisp and fresh no matter how many time zones or overhead storage lockers it has passed through.

What originally began life as a suit has evolved into a clothing edit for both men and women comprising colourful tailored pieces, dresses and even flexible ‘travel shoes’. New season shades of turquoise and aubergine for him sit alongside indigo, dark green and slate blue suits for her as well as a turquoise shift dress. The complete SS19 Paul Smith collection is equally playful and vibrant with ‘reinvigorated’ tailoring, loose silhouettes and archive photography prints.

From a long weekend in the city of love to the ultimate road trip

36 hours in Paris

Pretty, historic, cultured, romantic: it’s easy to see why Paris remains one of the world’s most popular travel destinations. And no matter how many times you visit the city of lights, it never fails to charm. Although swarming in summertime, it’s always worth ticking off the usual tourist attractions if you’re a first timer. Just make sure to pre-book tickets to the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower in advance and to factor in plenty of time just to simply wander around discovering little local cafés, boulangeries and bistros. During the warmer months, Paris welcomes a whimsical funfair called the Fête des Tuileries, located in the scenic grounds of the central Jardin des Tuileries, as well as temporary beaches dotted along the Seine complete with pop-up food stalls and retro deckchairs.

Five days on the Amalfi Coast

Also top of every travel lover’s bucket list is Italy’s eternally photogenic Amalfi Coast. Located less than a two-hour drive south of Naples, Amalfi’s 40km of unspoiled coastline is dotted with glamorous five-star hotels and pastel-coloured villas perched over dramatic clifftops. Try to hold off visiting until after August, when crowds and temperatures are at their peak, and instead take a pleasant autumn break in September or October. Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi are the three main towns to explore but it’s definitely worth planning day trips to beautiful Capri, ancient Pompeii or the volcanic garden island of Ischia. There are also plenty of hiking trails to help you burn off all the pasta and ice cream – such as the famous Il Sentiero degli Dei (the path of the Gods), a tranquil, easy-to-navigate 7km hilltop trek between Bomerano and Nocelle.

Two-week Route 66 road trip

The great American road trip crosses eight states, three time zones and nearly 2,500 miles, starting from Chicago in the east and ending up in sunny Santa Monica on the west coast. The legendary Route 66 (also known as the Mother Road) dates back to 1926 and was one of the country’s first transcontinental highways. It’s the ultimate road trip for fans of nostalgic America, travelling through some of the country’s most spectacular scenery and landmarks; from the cornfields of Illinois to the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon all the way to sun-soaked Los Angeles. For the full Route 66 experience, hire a Chevrolet convertible (or a Harley Davidson for bikers) and enjoy the spontaneity of life on the open road, stopping off at authentic roadside diners and motels.
