Unveiling the Magic with Kasing Lung

Globe-Trotter x Kasing Lung's The Monsters Case Set

Celebrated illustrator Kasing Lung has breathed new life into his beloved characters, Labubu and The Monsters, through an exclusive collaboration with Globe-Trotter. This partnership introduces a limited-edition suitcase and a set of The Monsters bronze figurines, who accompany him to their destination, Monsterland.

The limited-edition suitcase features Globe-Trotter's iconic design infused with Kasing's imaginative artistry. The charcoal grey exterior, accentuated by vibrant corner pieces and Kasing’s signature, transforms this luggage into a collectible masterpiece. Crafted from Globe-Trotter’s patented Vulcanised Fibreboard - composed of 14 layers of specialized fibres - this suitcase boasts strength surpassing leather and a weight lighter than aluminium. The premium vegetable-tanned leather corners, in hues of brown, yellow, green, and blue, harmonize with the story's vibrant palette. Black leather trims and accents further enhance the blend of traditional craftsmanship and the artist's imagination.

Opening the suitcase unveils a fantastical world brought to life by Kasing's new illustrations. Contrasting with the grey exterior is the bright, colourful depiction of Monsterland. Each character, with their unique expressions and forms, contributes to a borderless love. Look closer, and you’ll see more details emerge, offering a delightful exploration.

The limited-edition suitcase of 50 sets nestles bronze figurines of Labubu, accompanied by ten members of The Monsters in their new suitcase home. The figurine sets are available in both raw bronze and black paint finishes, showcasing different textures and visual effects. The largest piece is the 10-inch Wild Things Labubu, standing with hands on hips, seemingly plotting mischievous ideas. The remaining ten characters, each 3.5 inches tall, exude charm and whimsy.

Q&A with Kasing Lung

How did this collaboration with Globe-Trotter come about?

The brand Globe-Trotter has always represented elegance to me, and my works can show different possibilities. Combining different possibilities can yield unexpected results, so I was excited to start this project with Globe-Trotter.

Had you used Globe-Trotter luggage prior to this collaboration?

I once owned a Globe-Trotter piece and found it to be of very good quality, which is a hallmark of the brand.

What is the meaning behind the illustration in the lid of the case?

I wanted to express borderless love in the painting on the suitcase. In Europe, the owls in the lower right corner represent courage, while the free-spirited bird in the upper left corner symbolises freedom and peace. The background is composed of many colour blocks of different shapes and sizes, all coming together to form one whole, transcending national boundaries. Look closer, and you will find many small details in the painting!

What are the figurines? Is there a travel angle to this?

The small bronze statues in the suitcase are members of The Monsters. Accompanying them is a large sculpture of Wild Things Labubu, a character born in 2018. Over the past year, I have reshaped this character with a new style. This is also the main character in my solo exhibition in 2024, which is of great significance. The destination of this journey is Monsterland, the home of The Monsters. The Monsters will be your companions, guiding you to Monsterland and accompanying everyone on their journeys around the world.

The limited-edition bronze version is currently on display and available for order at the Globe-Trotter Hong Kong flagship store.
